Emerge Education, a London-based seed fund for startups focused on skills training and education, has closed on 10 million pounds (about $12.3 million) for its seed fund. Its backers include Trilogy founder Dan Sommer and former 2U CFO Rob Cohen. 2U bought Trilogy in 2019.
The fund makes 250,000 pound (about $302,000) investments in 20 to 25 pre-seed and seed-stage European companies. It can increase its investment to 1 million pounds (about $1.21 million) for later rounds.
Portfolio companies include Unibuddy, which allows college students to chat with prospective students; Mentor Collective, which pairs college students with mentors; and Tailor-ED, which provides open educational resources for math subjects.
