Sponge UK, a custom digital learning services provider based in Plymouth, England, has been bought by London-based private equity group Aliter Capital. Terms of the deal were undisclosed.
Aliter will combine Sponge with another online learning and training platform, Bolt Learning, according to a statement Wednesday. Aliter bought the Scotland-based Bolt Learning in June. It was one of Aliter’s 15 transactions since 2017.
Founded in 2004, Sponge designs and develops games, videos and tools for online learning in subjects like compliance, people development and skills enhancement. For example, the company created one game designed “to prevent bribery in your business.”
The company claims its services are used in more than 124 countries in industries that include retail, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing and other industries.
Founded in 2013, Bolt Learning offers a learning management system called Spark and a content editor called Ignite. It got its start serving retail and wholesale food businesses plus professional associations.
Other acquisitions in the corporate learning space this year include Intellum’s purchase of Appitierre, Tier1 Performance’s purchase of Bottom-Line Performance and Absorb Software’s purchase of eLogic Learning.
