HIGH NOON: Noon Academy, a Riyadh, Saudi Arabia-based online learning platform for live classes, has raised $8.6 million in a Series A round led by Raed Ventures and Saudi Technology Ventures. Also joining are Alisamiah Investment, Saudi Venture Capital Co., and individual investors including Careem co-founder Abdulla Elyas; Dr. Abdulrahman Aljadhai, CEO of Elm, and Mazen Aljubair.
Elyas, Raed Ventures’ Omar Almajdouie and STV’s Hani Enaya will join Noon Academy’s board as part of the deal, according to a prepared statement.
Founded in 2013, Noon Academy started as a test-prep website that is now a freemium business. It claims to have served two million students and 1,500 certified tutors to date. Noon employs over 90 people.
Other Middle Eastern companies in education technology to receive funding in recent years include GradTrain, CodeMonkey, Orcas and Coded Minds.
