Remind Announces Spanish Language Version

Listos para recordar? (Ready to remind?)

On January 21, Remind launched a Spanish language version of its app. Used by over 1.5 million teachers, administrators and coaches--including 35% of K-12 teachers in the US--Remind continues to expand its user base and offerings, after scaling the heights of App Store popularity in the past six months.

Remind’s 23 million teacher, student and parent users can now log into the app (available on iOS, Android, web and SMS) and switch their language preference to Spanish. That means all the nuances and accents of a Spanish language message will be preserved--provided the original message was sent in Spanish.

Sadly, automatic translation is still in the future. A message sent in English will remain in English. At least for now.

“Our priority of languages is based on demand from our teachers,” CEO Brett Kopf told EdSurge. With 35 million Latinos speaking Spanish at home in the US, and heavy use of Remind in California, Texas, New York and Florida, Spanish was a natural first choice for language expansion. And Remind isn’t stopping aquí: the company is planning to offer Chinese, German, Brazilian Portuguese, French and UK English versions soon.

Editor's note: An earlier version of the story suggested the app could translate from English to Spanish. Todavía no.
