Ditching Lecture? Think Again, Thanks to this Facial Recognition App

Feb 17, 2015

DITCH DAYS ARE OVER? Most people have ditched a lecture or two (or all of them) during their college days. After all, in a lecture hall of 300 students, who will notice? But those days may soon be over. FastCompany reports that researchers at the Missouri University of Science and Technology are creating a facial recognition app that can help professors keep track of attendance. The app isn't publicly available yet, but the creator is reportedly exploring ways to integrate it with learning management systems.

Parents and privacy advocates will surely have a field day over this and other facial recognition technologies that presumably check for students' understanding and see whether they're engaged (or snoozing). For students, practicing facial expressions may be another 21st century skill to learn.
