InstaEDU sells Cardinal Scholars to Course Hero

Jul 16, 2012

Cardinal Scholars: Sold by parent company, InstaEDU, to Course Hero for an undisclosed price. InstaEDU CEO Alison Johnston and COO Dan Johnston founded Cardinal Scholars, an in-house tutoring service, in response to demand for tutoring services from Stanford students. It launched with 14 tutors in January 2010 and has since expanded to Boston and New York with an estimated 150 tutors. Revenue from Cardinal Scholars, in turn, supported the founding of InstaEDU, an online, on-demand tutoring service to which the Johnstons are now devoting their time and energies.

With this newly acquired legion of tutors, Course Hero CEO Andrew Grauer aims to bring the “blended learning experience” into in-house tutoring. Course Hero’s vast repository of study resources will be available for tutors to use, along with a new dashboard and feedback system, according to TechCrunch. Next steps for Cardinal Scholars (which will retain its name) include expanding to 100 prestigious universities, as those who use tutoring services are impressed with such credentials.
