Millennials Take Spotlight in Mary Meeker’s 2016 Internet Trends Report

Jun 2, 2016

THE MEEKER REPORT: The year’s most hotly anticipated set of PowerPoint slides have arrived. This week, Mary Meeker of Kleiner Perkins shared the newest version of her annual “2016 Internet Trends” report, chock full of numbers, graphs, arrows and dollar signs. Nowhere in 213 slides do education trends make an appearance. But there are plenty of observations about Millennials, who are supposedly “optimistic, tolerant” and “earn to spend” (slides 51-22) and spend a lot of time on Facebook (73). There are even some bold claims about “Gen Z”—those ages 1 to 20—and their preferred communication styles, which revolve around smiley faces and emojis. On a more serious note, the deck ends with a list of consumer concerns about data privacy and security that definitely apply to the edtech discourse.
