DeVry Acquires Damásio, Announces First Four Startups in Incubator

Dec 17, 2014

DEVRY: On December 16, DeVry Education Group, a for-profit operator of higher-ed institutions, announced the first four startups in its edtech incubator. The company hopes that inclusion in the incubator, which it founded with Chicago-based 1871 in September, will lead to “long term partnership with DeVry Education Group,” senior director of research and development Jeff Dunn told EdSurge.

The first four participants are Youtopia, a Chicago-based digital reward and motivation system, Los Angeles-based SmartPants App, a platform for student-organized study groups, London-based CENTURY-Tech, which analyzes data for personalized learning pathways, and San Jose-based YuJa, which helps educators capture and broadcast videos to students online. More in the press release.

On December 16, DeVry also announced its impending acquisition of Brazil-based Damásio Educacional. Damásio offers undergraduate and graduate law programs and bar exam test preparation to over 50,000 students in Brazil, according to BusinessWire.
