In the Shift to Common Core, Buck Institute Calls for More PBL

Dec 22, 2013

PBL + CCSS: “With change comes opportunity” is an idea that the Buck Institute’s Sara Hallermann takes to heart. More specifically, the “change” is the shift to Common Core testing, and the “opportunity” is the integration of project-based learning. In her Edutopia article this week, Hallermann argues that Common Core shifts “the role of teachers to curriculum designers and managers of an inquiry process”--a perfect opportunity for PBL tactics to support the development of students as investigators and arguers (the good kind of arguing). An added bonus: Hallermann links to Buck’s collection of PBL-supporting resources.
