Awards Roundup for Edtech Startups

Oct 14, 2013

EYES ON THE PRIZE: Over the past couple weeks, several edtech startups stole the media spotlight:

CodeHS joins fellow Imagine K12 companies NoRedInk (2012) and ClassDojo (2011) that took home the grand prize in the NBC Education Innovation Challenge. (NoRedInk and CodeHS graduated from the same class.) CodeHS, which offers a platform to teach computer science to students, outshone Teachley and GigaBryte (also an Imagine K12 graduate), in a series of pitch challenges. CodeHS takes home a $75K prize along with fond memories of TV time with Al Roker.

TeachBoost received a GREAT Tech Award, an international startup competition organized by UK Trade & Investment, for the education category. Also, the People's Choice Award went to another NYC startup, Codecademy. Aside from getting shoutouts from folks like the Duke of York, these NYC-based startups will meet with U.K. bigwigs and expand its teacher feedback and evaluation tool there.
