MODERN GUILD: $500K to NY-based Modern Guild, an online career mentoring service for college and college-bound students, from individuals including Alex Asseily (chairman and co-founder of Jawbone) and Shawn Sabin (founder of Accent Mandarin). The company aims to redress the disconnect between college academics and career education by offering 8-10 week career prep courses and 1-on-1 sessions from over 200 mentors. A pilot conducted back in December 2012 for 100 students across ten campuses found many happy responses. Modern Guild also announced that it has received nearly 4,000 applications for just 50 available openings for its upcoming spring class. Wired Academic has more details in a Q&A with founder Adrien Fraise.
