Amplify Debuts Edtech Games For Learning Language Arts & STEM

Jun 17, 2013

AMPLIFY UNVEILS GAMES: Amplify is starting to lay down its cards. At a major gaming conference in New York City on Tuesday, Amplify planned to publicly debut more than 30 games targeting middle school students studying English language arts and STEM subjects. The games, which are being piloted at schools around the US, will run both on Amplify's tablet or on iOS devices.

Even so they're not quite ready yet: Schools will be able to buy them in spring 2014 to use during the 2014-15 school year.

“Our games are like nothing you’ve ever seen,” said Amplify CEO Joel Klein in press release. “We’re not designing homework here. These games will improve learning not because kids have to play them in school, but because they want to play them in their own free time.”

Among them:

Lexica is Amplify’s premier English Language Arts immersive game world. It includes 14 embedded games, each with multiple levels and episodes, as well as a library stocked with more than 300 books. Amplify will also include 15 STEM games, ranging from geometry and puzzle games to biological sciences. Amplify commissioned games from more than a half-dozen respected game designers including Schell Games, Zachtronics and Ira Fay Games to name a few.
