School Context

This school will use blended learning and socratic seminars and discussions as its primary methods for instruction. Students at this school will not be constrained to traditional classrooms, but will participate in a variety of learning opportunities. Students will learn partially online, collaboratively, and will have face- time with teachers in some subjects. The school also focuses on non-cognitive skill development as they seek to teach the whole student.

State of Technology

This school is looking to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of writing across the curriculum. Students will be writing to show mastery all content areas in this school model, so they are looking for a tool that all teachers could use to help students "write to learn" in a variety of written modes.

Currently, the school uses paper and basic word-processing tools for composing and rubrics for evaluation. The school is hoping to increase the ability for teachers to give feedback to student writing while simultaneously be able to assign more writing tasks.

Tech Needs & Requirements

The administrator would like a flexible writing tool that allows students the ability to write and rewrite in a true recursive process. Additionally, the school is looking to implement a writing across the curriculum, so that different content area teachers can assign writing and evaluate it from within the tool. Therefore, the tool should be customizable and flexible. However, if the tool comes with pre-packaged prompts, reading passages, and rubrics that would be a nice to have. If there was a way for students to self-assess that would be a very nice to have. It would also be ideal if the tool had a way for students to collaborate or at least be able to have peer-to-peer evaluations as well.

Students will be able to write at their own pace and revise and resubmit with permission from teacher or administrator.

Teachers should be able to assign work, monitor progress, and give individualized feedback on the tool.

The tool needs to be customizable with content prompts and rubrics, support writing across the curriculum, support some level of sharing and allow students to revise and re-submit.

The school allows bring your own devices and provides mostly Chromebooks.

Progress data and formative data should be available to the teachers and students, but this is not the primary function of this tool.

The tool should integrate with a learning management system.
