VA Tech Class Does Social Media the Right Way

Sep 12, 2012

THIS IS PARTICIPATORY POLITICS: The folks at MacArthur couldn't have picked a better time to release their study on youth and participatory politics. If you're having trouble grasping the term, take a look at this video from John Boyer and his World Regions class at Virginia Tech. The passionate professor first came across our radar when we learned of the meteoric rise in enrollment for the World Regions course. Refusing to limit enrollment for his World Regions, he began relying on social media and game mechanics to better engage an ever-growing class size. Now the class is taking it to another level by soliciting a visit from President Obama with a little viral video madness. In just one week, the video has garnered over 50K views. Participatory politics? Yes, indeed.
