The Impact of Streaming Video in Education

The Impact of Streaming Video in Education

INFOGRAPHICS--VIDEO IN EDUCATION: The Impact of Video in Education infographic from Cisco is a quick summary of its 41-page white paper titled “The Impact of Broadcast and Streaming Video in Education.” It’s not immediately apparent where all the data comes from (the paper cites several academics and the PBS annual teacher survey), but there are promising indications: 44% of 5th to 8th graders in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school district, for example, scored higher on their end-of-year science exam after using streaming video in the classroom. The report also outlines several barriers to the success of video instruction classified as technological, legislative, behavioral, and resource-based. Sadly, while resource-based barriers include content development, professional development, and technical support, there is no mention of cost. Perhaps it's beyond the report's scope but Cisco clearly punts on the issue when labeling "top-down support" and "investment in professional development" -- important factors for every cash-strapped edu-initiative -- as drivers to success.
