Pearson acquires EmbanetCompass for $650 million

Oct 16, 2012

EmbanetCompass: Acquired by Pearson for $650 million in cash, reports Bloomberg. Founded in 1995, EmbanetCompass works with universities across the U.S. to provide an array of online learning services such as market research, student recruitment, and course design. The Financial Times (which Pearson owns and but is speculated to sell), calls this the company's largest acquisition in five years, but also noted that it will "reduce the company's firepower for further deals."
