BUCKLE YOUR SEATBELTS: We love to see pilot programs get off the ground! Los Altos School District has just received a $100,000 grant from the Los Altos Educational Foundation to keep flipping the classrooms by using Khan Academy materials. Last year Los Altos used Khan in five elementary classrooms. Although there were no significant statistical jumps in standardized test scores, teachers liked it, and the district is rolling out the program to all 38 5th and 6th grades, as well as to five teachers who teach junior high grades. To put that in context: the Foundation plans to contribute $2.35 million to Los Altos schools this year, reinstating 40 staff along with using Khan.
