John Fallon takes Pearson's helm

Oct 9, 2012

THREE THINGS TO KNOW: Three things to know about John Fallon, who takes on the CEO job at Pearson as of January 1, 2013 after 16 years of leadership by Marjorie Scardino.

  • He has made Pearson a big player in developing markets including China, South Africa and Brazil as he's run Pearson's education businesses outside of North America since 2003.
  • The industry is looking for signs Fallon will sell the Financial Times, (something Scardino said would only happen over her "dead body");
  • He's a communications guy at heart, and previously ran corporate affairs at Powergen PLC, a electricity company that was acquired by Gernan holding co., E.ON, in 2002.
