SXSW (in miniature): Futurist Ray Kurzweil warmed hearts at Austin SXSW by talking about the need to change education. His money quote during his keynote address: "All of our schools need to bring 'learn from doing' into the mainstream education, not just afternoon." Betsy's panel, with Mitch Kapor, Phil Bronner and Rob Hutter, drew a crowd. Memorable observations: Mitch noted that the best learning platform may not have been created yet. Phil looked shocked at the idea that there's a "bubble" of edtech startups: "It's great someone thinks there's a bubble in edu--that means people are thinking about it." Rob declared that "blended learning has been proven. The challenge for entrepreneurs in next five years is to scale from 20 to 20 million kids." And a halcyon moment of panel consensus: "The only second language you should worry about your kids learning is programming."
