INIGRAL announced receiving $3.25 million last month from the Gates Foundation and Retro Venture Partners. (The Gates Foundation also gave Inigral $2 million in January 2011, marking its first investment in a for-profit company.) The SF-based company will use funds to continue development and expansion of its Schools App, a Facebook application that allow universities and students connect with one another to foster engagement with peers and the campus community. More details from VentureBeat and The Chronicle of Higher Education. (Note: The Gates Foundation has also provided support to EdSurge.)
