GROCKIT: Fresh $7 million round for SF-based Grockit, to fuel its worldwide growth. Investors include NewSchools Venture Fund, GSV Capital, as well as existing backer, Atlas Ventures. Benchmark Capital and Integral Capital also took part. Its raised $24.7 million to date. Matt Bowman notes (ok, for VentureBeat but for EdSurge, too!) that Grockit, which applies game mechanics to studying, is on a tear: it plunged into the K-12 market two years ago and gives students access from Facebook. It's also philanthropically active with its "Grockit for Good" program and support of StartupWeekend EDU. One potential challenge: If you get kids addicted to Grockit, you'd better have plenty of great content. Intelligent word problems that spur higher-order thinking are hard to mass produce!
