KODACHROME: "Sixty-nine percent less labor to install and 92% less labor to support than desktop PCs, laptop PCs, or netbooks." So states a Google-sponsored white paper, published by market research and analysis firm IDC, that examines the labor, cost, and time savings to schools that have adopted Chromebooks. (Tablets were included as well, but there was no mention of specific brands.) Based on interviews with administrators and IT staff at 12 K-12 school districts in 2011, the study presents a pretty hard-nosed, strictly-business argument--that not only do Chromebook help save money (when compared to other devices), but also help make class time more productive. Google also announced four school districts that have recently put in large orders.
