Civitas Learning, a platform launched yesterday by former Kaplan senior exec, Charles Thornburgh, promises to leverage big data so students can answer that question. The startup will collect academic, behavioral, and demographic data from partnering post-secondary institutions to model trends and create "Netflix-style recommendations" tailored for each student, according to The Atlantic. Based in Austin, TX, Civitas last June raised $4.1 million from Austin Ventures, First Round Capital, and Floodgate.
