George Lucas To Donate 'Majority' of $4B Disney Windfall to Education

'HELP US, OBI-WAN KENOBI': Is he education's shining hope? Maybe. The Hollywood Reporter quoted George Lucas on Oct. 31, shortly after his sale of Lucasfilm to Disney for $4.05 billion: "As I start a new chapter in my life, it is gratifying that I have the opportunity and time to devote more time and resources to philanthropy." And by philanthropy, many signs point to education and, specifically, the education resource website, Edutopia, which is part of the George Lucas Education Foundation. In 2010, Lucas affirmed to the Giving Pledge that he was "dedicating the majority of [his] wealth to improving education."
