Frank Catalano on Shared Learning Collaborative, big data

Jul 4, 2012

WHERE'S MY WATER? Our friend Frank Catalano dropped us a teaser at ISTE about his next piece involving pipes, buckets and spigots. This week we learn these were actually metaphors for a host of large-scale (but relatively low-key), interconnected projects involving student data, online content, and Common Core standards: Shared Learning Infrastructure, Shared Learning Collaborative, Learning Resource Metadata Initiative and Learning Registry. (To the best of our knowledge, no one else has been this succinct in describing this messy web.) Managing silos of student info and vendor data, of course, is a huge headache--one that Audrey Watters probed vendors about during her tour of the ISTE exhibit hall.
