CAN’T THIS BE NORMAL?: Howard Rheingold breaks down the pedagogy behind his mid-term and final exam designs in his quest to move away from traditional grading and towards “self and peer assessment.” Building on the work of Cathy Davidson and Dean Shareski (both conveniently in his PLN), Rheingold  marvels at changing student attitudes when assessment -- particularly his alternate approach to midterms -- is placed in their control. The moment of reckoning comes on December 9 when students’ final exams are due. If only we could convince Rheingold to mix in a little crowd-sourced assessment (hint hint!).
