READY INTERPLAY-ER ONE: Interplay Learning, an Austin, Texas-based provider of virtual reality and 3D simulations for job-skills training, has raised $5.5 million in a Series A round. S3 Ventures led the round with participation from Shasta Ventures, Sierra Ventures, Holt Ventures, Wild Basin Investments and Shelter Capital Partners.

Founded in 2010, Interplay will use the money toward hiring and expanding into new markets, according to a statement Tuesday. The company claims over 70,000 students and professionals use its products, which offer lessons for mechanical, electrical and industrial jobs.

Shasta Ventures has previously invested in LearnUp, Socratic.org and Lore.
