Socratic.org Raises $6M to Grow Global Q&A Community

Mar 25, 2015

The Socratic Method encourages learning by discussing, and over on Socratic.org, half a million students are asking and answering questions every month.

Investors want a say, too, and they're putting money where the mouths are. The New York-based company has raised $6 million in a Series A round led by Shasta Ventures, with Spark Capital and Omidyar Network also participating. On top of a $1.5 million seed round in 2013, Socratic.org has now raised $7.5 million.

Founded in 2013, Socratic.org offers students an online question-and-answer community curated according to different academic subjects. Resembling a combination of Yahoo Answers and Quora, the platform allows users to ask and answer questions, and provide supplemental videos and other online resources to support their responses.

The company currently claims half a million monthly active users, and will use the funds to create a mobile app and expand from 12 to 50 subject areas.
