Weld North Makes Yet Another Acquisition: PreK-12 Assessment Company, ATI

Mar 8, 2019

PASSING THE TEST: Weld North Education, a New York-based private equity firm that focuses on the education sector, has bought Assessment Technology Inc., the company behind the Galileo brands of pre-K-12 online assessments. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Weld North now bills itself as the largest company in the U.S. solely dedicated to online education curriculum and assessment. CEO Jonathan Grayer said in a prepared statement that regular, validated and formative progress monitoring helps student education, personalized learning and give teachers important data.

Assessment Technology Inc., commonly called ATI, was founded in 1986 and has two flagship apps, Galileo K-12 and Galileo Pre-K. Weld North plans to integrate these assets with Weld North’s offerings, and says it does not expect disruption to its products during that time.

Weld North also plans to close the acquisition of Glynlyon, a digital curriculum company serving over 1 million students in the institutional and consumer education markets, in the second quarter, pending regulatory approval. Weld North announced the Glynlyon deal earlier this year. Weld North has been buying online educational assets since 2010.

Weld North’s portfolio includes digital education companies Edgenuity and Imagine Learning, bought in 2014. Edgenuity is used in over 20,000 schools nationwide, including 20 of the 25 largest school districts.
