MORE MONEY, MORE TRACKING: FaceMetrics, an app that uses gaming to let parents control children’s screen time, has raised $2 million in funding from Larnabel Ventures and VP Capital, according to a press release.
The startup’s parental control app uses artificial intelligence and computer vision technology to report to parents on what their children are doing on smartphones and other devices. The company aims to gamify the control of kids’ screen time, meaning “parents can limit the time kids spend playing games and exchange that time for reading or study time,” the press release reads. It also analyzes a child’s mood, rewards him or her for diligence and allows parents to track and measure the distance between their child’s face and their device.
The app will launch this summer in Russian and English. It will be free in Belarus; parents in other countries will have to buy a subscription.
