After Market Share Dip, Apple iPads Are Getting Cheaper

Mar 28, 2017

THE APPLE BITES BACK: Big news for Apple iPads fans—or foes: the devices are getting cheaper. Apple, once top purveyor tablets to U.S. classrooms, has taken a plunge in recent years and now sits third behind Google and Microsoft in sales among the national device market, according to a Futuresource report. But the company is fighting back, and last week unveiled a lower cost for the iPad starting at $329—the cheapest tablet offered by the company. What’s more (or perhaps, less)? The devices are only $299 for schools, not far from the price top competitor Google Chromebooks, which made up 58 percent of the market share in 2016 and can range from $149 to $499.
