Tenn. Governor Pushes to Expand Free Community College Program to Adults

Feb 2, 2017

FREE COLLEGE: Fans of Bernie Sanders’ and later Hillary Clinton’s platforms to make college free for students might like what Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam has in the works. The Republican leader wants to expand his state’s community college program—which offers free post-secondary education to recent high school graduates—to also include adults. The extended plan would support Haslam’s goal to get a degree or certificate into the hands of 55 percent of Tennessee’s population by 2025, according to NPR, and was “well-received” by Democrats and Republicans when presented Monday night.
