LinkedIn and Lynda Launch ‘Learning Paths’ to Help Boost Careers

FORGING NEW PATHS: LinkedIn is now connecting more than just people. This week, the company launched a new feature through Lynda.com called “Learning Paths.” Each of the 53 paths currently available is a package of Lynda.com courses designed to give people a boost in their current career, or help them start an entirely different one. Ever wanted to become an EDM producer? There’s a path for that—and many other technology, design and business roles. Having completed a Learning Path (which can take 10 to 68 hours, depending on the skill), users can display their new competencies on their LinkedIn profiles.

For users who can’t decide path to take, LinkedIn can also make pathway recommendations based on what their interests are, or which jobs are popular, according to Re/Code. By the end of the year, the company expects to offer over 100 pathways.

The launch of Learning Paths is an affirmation of what LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner promised shortly after buying Lynda.com for $1.5 billion last year: “Our ultimate vision is to develop the world’s first economic graph….We want to digitally map the world’s economy, identifying the connections between people, companies, jobs, skills, higher educational organizations, and professional knowledge, and allow all forms of capital—intellectual capital, financial capital and human capital—to where it can best be leveraged.”
