DonorChoose Projects Receive $14M From Gwyneth Paltrow, Ashton Kutcher, Twitter Founders and Other Celebrities

Mar 15, 2016

#BESTSCHOOLDAY: On March 10, donations from a number of celebrities hit schools all at once. Twitter cofounders Jack Dorsey, Biz Stone and Ev Williams funded classroom projects in Boston, MA, Richmond, CA, San Francisco, CA and all of Missouri through teacher crowdfunding site DonorsChoose. They took their cue from Stephen Colbert's donations to South Carolina teachers in May 2015. They weren't the only ones.

All in all, according to Fast Company, a group of more than 50 philanthropists, athletes, founders, and celebrities have made plans to give over $14 million in funding to DonorsChoose projects. DonorsChoose CEO and founder Charles Best said that amount is enough to fund more than half of all the projects on the site. The list is star-studded: Gwyneth Paltrow is funding projects in Santa Monica, Ashton Kutcher in Iowa, Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian in his hometown neighborhood of Fort Greene, Brooklyn.
