HIBERNIA COLLEGE UK (HCUK), a provider of online teacher training courses and qualification services, has been acquired by TES Global. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Founded in 2000 with offices in the UK and Ireland, HCUK also provides digital professional development and subject-specific training for aspiring teachers.
According to the release, overseas British schools will need an estimated 150,000 additional teachers--a problem that the combination of HCUK's programs and TES' community base could potentially address.
With more than 7 million registered teachers, TES boasts the largest online network for the profession. In 2014 the company has been making forays into other digital "spaces" with the acquisition of two San Francisco edtech startups: Wikispaces and Blendspace.
