COMPANY CAPSTONES: Who better to judge employable skills than prospective employers themselves? That appears to be the idea behind Coursera's move to bring on Instagram, 500 Startups, Snapdeal and Shazam to advise and review capstone projects for Coursera's "Specializations," a series of courses that add up what the company hopes is comparable to a formal degree. (Each Specialization is made up of two to six courses, each of which cost around $49.) Fortune reports that executives from these companies will help create and judge capstone projects submitted by Coursera students; 500 Startups will even let top students in the "Entrepreneurship" Specialization pitch ideas to its investors. Earlier partners include Google, SwiftKey and iHeartMedia.
