OccupyTheBookstore Occupies Reddit Front Page

Jan 2, 2015

OCCUPYING REDDIT: Landing on Reddit's homepage is like stumbling upon the Holy Grail of the web. On the morning of Jan. 2, the top post on the so-called "front page of the Internet" went to OccupyThe Bookstore.com, which offers a Chrome extension that displays competitive prices on college bookstore websites. The developers hail from Texts.com, described by one of the founders in the Reddit thread as a "bootstrapped company working out of a cramped office that smells like Sriracha." The team gets a referral commission from sales on partner websites like Amazon, Chegg and ValoreBooks. OccupyTheBookstore claims it has been asked to remove its plugin by Follett, which serves over 1,700 college bookstore. But it has no intention to do so--much to the delight of the Redditors.
