TOO COOL (PERFECT FOR SCHOOL): Here we go again--and for the last time this year, as we'll be doing out "favorite tools of 2014" wrap-up next week! Our fave S'Cool Tools for this last week of the year are:
Free! Documentaries are seriously cool--and a great way for students to stay learning over winter holidays with their families. EdExcellenceMedia has curated hundreds of free streaming videos from the likes of Netflix and Amazon, covering a huge range of topics: the human body to ancient Egypt, immigration and citizenship to outer space. We’ll have to see who’s got some new cool facts from Ms. Frizzle after the break.
Free! Do you know some readers looking to connect with other young bookworms? Bookopolis provides an online community for young readers to find new books and connect with each other. Take advantage of their resources to assign book reports and track daily reading in logs, or let your students find their next favorite novel based on peer recommendations.
License: If you want to assess reading skills more effectively, MindPlay Virtual Reading Coach Teacher Companion may have the resources to make it happen. Designed to offer teacher PD in research-based reading instruction, MindPlay VRC Teacher Companion provides material for areas including Phonemic Awareness, Grammar & Meaning, and Phonics. The tool costs $209 for one teacher for one year, with more pricing options for multiple teachers.
