CODING BLOCKS: On September 11, Code.org launched Code Studio, which will provide guided lesson plans to develop K-12 student interest in the underlying concepts of coding. Like MIT's Scratch, Code Studio will teach ideas of coding through manipulations of blocks of logic, rather than the specifics of a particular language. But director of product Mona Akmal told TechCrunch that unlike tools like Scratch, Code Studio will allow educators to monitor student progress, enabling differently paced lessons within a classroom. Code Studio will also include Play Lab, where students can share creations with parents or others by sending apps or animations directly to a cell phone number.
