Critics Question High NY State Teacher Evals Among Low Student Scores

AND ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COUNTRY: For the first time, New York State released teacher and principal evaluations that allow parents and administrators to assess the effectiveness of local teachers--at the county, district and school level (in some cases). Figures released last Thursday showed that 94% of teachers and 92% of principals rated in those top two tiers. Critics are questioning the high ratings, citing this year’s sharp statewide drop in student test scores.
