NYC's Private Pre-K Centers Fear Staffing Issues

Jul 10, 2014

WHERE DID ALL THE TEACHERS GO?: The NYC Department of Ed has been going gaga for pre-K programs, but in looking to build up those programs, the recruitment of pre-K teachers may harm private pre-K centers. The NYTimes reported on Tuesday that directors of private preschools like Cypress Hills Childcare Center are shaking in their boots, concerned about staffing and the fact that they “cannot compete with the salary and benefits offered by the Education Department.” Looks like an unintended consequence of an otherwise great move by NYC.
