GIRLS CLUB: “Younger girls see men, not women, doing all the techie stuff,” explains Diana Navarro, a Rutgers computer science major, in the San Jose Mercury News. But that won’t last forever, if “Made with Code” has anything to do with it. This week, Google announced a partnership with Girls Who Code, a nonprofit that offers a community and courses for young women interested in coding.
The “Made with Code” website includes coding lessons from designing 3-D printed bracelets to programming a GIF, a directory of programs and role models of women in tech. As Susan Wojcicki, CEO of YouTube, explains, “We’ve got to show all girls that computer science is an important part of their future and that it’s a foundation to pursue their passions, no matter what field they enter.”
