Zoobean Triumps Over 'Sharks,' Raises $400K

Apr 27, 2014

ZOOBEAN: $400K to Washington, DC-based Zoobean from investors that include Militello Capital, CIT GAP Funds and angel investor, Hilton Augustine, Jr. Zoobean aims to help parents pick the most appropriate books and apps for their children and bills itself as a "Pandora" for children's apps and books. The funding is apparently in addition to a $250K investment made by entrpreneur-investor, Mark Cuban, which followed an appearance of co-founders--and spouses--Felix Brandon Lloyd and Jordan Lloyd Bookey--on ABC's "Shark Tank." The episode aired on April 18 and showed off the couple's smarts and tenacity: it was filmed last July. Zoobean has a been a part of the Newmeaccelerator, which aims to support minority-led startups. A year ago, the company raised $572K in venture financing from investors, including Kapor Capital. It also took on $270K in debt financing.
