CAMPAIGN TRAIL: Texas Senator and gubernatorial hopeful Wendy Davis stopped by SXSWedu yesterday to roll out her education platform in her panel on 'Great Schools: A Vision For The Future'. On Davis' list of priorities: making college affordable, access to quality pre-K options, and recruiting high quality teachers through loan repayment and salary increases. She critiqued over testing, emphasizing it should only be used to improve teaching and learning. Should she win the governors seat, she would seek to reduce the number of tests Texas students must take. However, today the US Department of education denied Texas an NCLB testing waiver, which would have allowed students who do well on exams in third and fifth grade to skip testing in fourth, sixth, and seventh grade.
