Kansas Drops Out of Smarter Balanced Consortium

SCHOOL DROPOUT: Will this become a pattern of nationwide vs. state-determined school testing? The Smarter Balanced Consortium (translation: those states interested in creating and testing one particular version of assessments for the Common Core Standards) had 25 members until last Thursday, when Kansas dropped out. Turns out Kansas doesn’t want to work with the other states, opting instead to work with its local state universities to develop and test CCSS assessments. Here’s a map of the consortium’s current members.
