NYC Plans New iZone Academy with Startup-Inspired Design

Dec 12, 2013

NO WALLS IN NYC: New York City wants to open up a new high school in 2014--minus the library, gyms, and math classrooms. As reported by the Wall Street Journal, the NYC Department of Education is currently planning a high school, iZone Academy, where the school design will revolve around “co-working spaces.” Translation: no walls. Students will take “courses that combine online and classroom learning, while giving them more time for internships” at startups and companies like Microsoft. However, with the recent change in NYC’s mayoral leadership, whether or not the school will open in 2014 remains to be seen.
