Yes, this really truly is the "greatest show (and tell) on earth." This year's extravaganza of making opens wide its door on Saturday, May 18 at 10:00 AM and again Sunday, May 19 at 10:00 am.
More than 900 different (and, yes, in some cases, really different) exhibits will be in full force. From smoke, fire and robots to textiles, bees and beer--there is something for everyone at Maker Faire.
On Thursday evening, the EdSurge team met with Bay area teachers at the Maker Faire for some roll-up-your sleeves and try it time. We suspect that everyone would agree that "professional development" is seldom so much fun!

The most marvelous demonstrations, of course, are in the Young Makers Tent, where plenty of students will be on hand to share what they have built. And there will be many, many opportunities to roll up your sleeves and build things that blink, or roll, or wiggle or are simply pretty.
If you need a couple of anchors for your day, here are a couple of additional highlights from the Maker Faire program:
- Sat. 1 & 4 pm; Sun 4 pm: Demo: What happens when you mix Coke Zero and Mentos? (Stand back!)
-
Sat 2 pm: A conversation with former astronaut, John Grunsfeld with journalist Miles O'Brien of PBS NewsHour
- Sat & Sun: 11:30 am, 12:30 pm, 2:30 pm, 3:30 pm 5:30 pm: Demo: Life size Mousetrap (eek!)
-
Sun 11 am: Mythbuster's Adam Savage
Also on hand will be the Giant Electric Giraffe, an Edible Marketplace, musicians zapped with Tesla coils and, of course, giant turkey drumsticks. You get the idea.
Finally, just in case you were wondering: Maker Faire didn't pay a cent for our heartfelt endorsement! It's just that good.
