Silicon Valley SuperPAC Focuses on Immigration, Education Reform

Apr 14, 2013

LOTS OF BACK FOR THIS PAC: Quite a few Silicon Valley luminaries are supporting a new 501(c)4 organization (often called a super PAC), FWD.us, dedicated to immigration and education reform. The list includes Mark Zuckerberg, Reid Hoffman, Eric Schmidt, and Marissa Mayer, among a host of fellow tech and investment titans. Zuckerberg formally announced the formation in a Washington Post op-ed, pressing for changing a "strange immigration policy for a nation of immigrants" that closes doors to smart, talented folks. On education, he called for "higher standards and accountability in schools, support for good teachers and a much greater focus on learning about science technology, engineering and math." This isn't his first involvement in ed reform; he had previously donated $100 million to Newark public schools for the Foundation for Newark's Future, over half of which has been spent on "Teacher Quality and Principal Leadership."
