Why Teaching is Good For You

Apr 3, 2013

A STUDY THAT SHOULD CHEER YOU: This just in from the folks at Gallup, America's pollsters: Teaching is good for you. As a profession, teachers came in second place among 14 professions (trailing only doctors) in "overall wellbeing." Wrote pollmester and executive director of Gallup Education, Brandon Busteed, and senior scientist Dr. Shane Lopez: "Teachers have high wellbeing because they rate their lives highly and are in great emotional health, which are two key subcomponents of wellbeing."

And yes, they smile a lot. Gallup found that more than any other profession, teachers are the most likely to say they “smiled or laughed a lot yesterday,” and the most likely to report experiencing “happiness” and “enjoyment” yesterday. That makes us smile!
