FELLOW COMRADE: Xinhua, China's main state-run news outlet, offered us a look at how the "new trend for free online learning is set to explode." The piece focuses on the work of Coursera co-founder Andrew Ng, who is reportedly in discussions with some universities on the mainland. (Coursera is also scheduled to launch a Chinese-language version of the platform for universities in Taiwan and Hong Kong.)
The government mouthpiece is never one to shy away from adding a shade of patriotism to facts, of course, as it also stated, "As an education pioneer of Chinese origin, Ng wants to express his own 'loyalty' to China and he believes the value of Chinese courses needs to be shared all over the world." (Any comments on your loyalties, Andrew? We're pretty sure China doesn't celebrate April Fools.)
